Fukuma Hair Flap
From July 2001 to August 2004 I lived in Fukuoka, Japan as a participant of the JET Programme. Shortly after I arrived I realized that each day spawned so many interesting (and sometimes deliciously banal) stories about life in Japan that I just had to share them with everyone I knew.
At a time when LiveJournal was still the defacto way to share thoughts online, I instead decided to dip my toes into the relatively young publishing format of the weblog, or ‘blog’.
Feast Your Eyes on the Sporttime Chicken™
So I'm back from my trip to Korea. I'm STILL sorting through all the pics actually. Between this site and my .mac photo galleries, there's going to be roughly a metric shitton of photos. ^_^ It's taking me a while to resize and color correct these babies though, so...
Some Random Urban Beauty
Today is Day 1 of my eleven-day holiday. At the beginning of May every year there's a series of about 4 national holidays that fall right in a row that creates a nice period of vacation time that they appropriately refer to as Golden Week 'round these parts. Throw in...
Those Inexorable Farewells and the Spaces They Leave Behind
I think graduation day has a beef with me that it's using to justify making my life a throbbing carnival of hell once a year. I sure don't remember running over it's dog or anything, but I've been kind of senile since my sophmore year of university so anything is...
Random Music Moment: La Femme D’argent
Well I have today's entry all written up and everything but it's very late, I'm very behind on sleep this week (not good since I have an office party tomorrow night) and I just can't be bothered to resize all the photos that go with the post so I'm going to go to bed...
Yeah, Like You Weren’t Thinking It
I'm slightly over three months out before it's time to pack up and leave Japan and that's been on my mind a lot lately.... i.e. I've been panicking!! 😛 Okay, it hasn't been that bad, but I've been preoccupied with it, which has undoubtedly affected my attendance here...
Now Vending: The Future
I can't remember when, but I'm sure I've sung the praises of Japanese vending machines before. Both their sheer volume (like every 10 feet it seems) and the remarkable range of products you can find in them (drinks, beer, cigarettes, cigarette lighters, porn,...
Game Review: Reiner Knizia’s Samurai
This is one of those things that qualifies as both Japan-related and random irrelavent-ness-itude. (I deny all claims that my English has atrophied. As you can see, I can still use big word. s. ) As most of you know, one of the axioms I define reality by is Video...
Life, Now With Footnotes
Hailing Frequencies Are Apparently Open
It's so cool how some of the promises of technology are coming true after all. Video phones are still a little ways off but iChatAV is proving to be pretty damn cool. For example, tonight instead of writing a proper update for you fine people I had a fellow ALT here...
New Phone, Part 2: And It Brought Presents
While we're on the subject of my phone, let's keep the momentum going. (Man, thank god for digital cameras because if there were no photos you wouldn't believe a word I'm about to tell you and you know it. Neither would I.) Along with the phone itself, I got a bag of...
New Phone, Part 1: My Phone is From the Future
I've been out of the States long enough now that it's dangerous for me to criticize things. Of course, we all know I don't "criticize" as much as I "openly lambast", but still the fact remains that after three years a lot of things have surely changed back home that I...
Trapped in a World of Internal Monologue
I was sitting in the office today, when Malik walks in from Elementary School and tosses a gift snack at me that he apparently got from one of the teachers there. I’m going to be honest with you, this snack was goddamn tasty! It was like a little poundcake-type...
