The Weekend has Landed

“The weekend has landed. All that exists now is clubs, drugs, pubs and parties. I’ve got 48 hours off from the world, man. I’m going to blow steam out of my head like a screaming kettle. I’m going to talk codshit to strangers all night. I’m going to lose the plot on the dance floor. The free-radicals inside me are freaking, man. Tonight I’m Jip-Travolta, I’m Peter Popper. I’m going to Never-Never Land with my chosen family, man. We’re going to get more spaced out than Neil Armstrong ever did. Anything could happen, you know, this could be the best night of my life. I’ve got 73 quid in my backburner, I’m gonna wax the lot, man. The milky-bars are on me!!”

With the exception of the bit about drugs, Jip’s monolgue from Human Traffic perfectly sums up my feelings, not only about the weekend, but about summer vacation which blows it’s way into Fukuma as of today!! I still need to show up for work at the town office, mind you, but since everyone knows we have very little to do, they usually let us go to the library next door to study. Of course, by “study” I mean “watch DVDs on my laptop.”

This break couldn’t have come at a better time too. I’m so fed up with the JET Programme right now that I could really use a little break. I mean, I can perhaps understand that to do more than one or two team teaching lessons a week can after a while start to hold up the progress that the JTEs (Japanese Teachers of English) have to get done in a semester. After all, you have to do some boring grammar study before you can actually put it into practice (which is what my classes are usually centered around).

But honestly, would it hurt to just have me in class to help out with little things, check the students work to make sure they’re getting it, pronounce a phrase here and there, and I don’t know just back up the JTEs a little?? Is that too much to ask to keep my from losing my mind from boredom? It’s like they only see my job as being there to entertain the kids one class a week. Ridiculous.

In other news, there’s a new desktop up in it’s respective section. Everyone loves desktop snaps!!

I’ve also got Alex Chiu’s site, which I refrenced earlier in the week, up in the Links section. I hesitated putting it up because I don’t really want to promote anything this jackass might ever have to say, but Christ, I laugh so hard when reading this crap that I’ve got to share the joy. If you haven’t checked it out yet, please do. Be sure to take a look at his predictions for the future once everyone becomes immortal thanks to his power rings. I also found his advice on how to become the Messiah and promote world peace to be most enlightening. And by “enlightening” I mean “these are statements so obvious that they shouldn’t even be considered advice, much less be mentioned in the same sentence as the word ‘messiah.'”

I’m off to play a little Caesar III now. I swear to Ceres, I will meet Ceasar’s population and prosperity requirements for Carthago. You’ll see. Ceasar will be so proud of me. He’ll think I’m awesome and invite me to Rome and…you’ll see. He’ll be so proud!!!
